As someone who struggled with anxiety, Imposter Syndrome and confidence issues throughout much (all) of my life, I came to coaching five years ago via a lifelong search for 'the answer'. I believed if I could just find the right intervention, therapy, medication, healer, mindset, yoga pose, then I'd be fixed and could finally enjoy life.
It was only through coaching with (my now friend and colleague), Sarah Durrant, that I discovered a different approach. One that helped me embrace who I was, just as I was. In a culture that constantly tells us we need to change, improve, achieve and adapt this was...new. I learned how to relate to myself and others with acceptance and compassion. I gained insight into how to soothe a nervous system that had been in survival mode for years, and how to gradually move out of that and into something more generative. I discovered how to dial down my perfectionistic, people pleasing behaviours and show up in more authentic ways.
Ultimately, I recognised that there was nothing wrong with me. I was simply a human having human experiences, trying to stay safe, relying on coping behaviours learned in childhood, and navigating a culture that resolutely ignores that this is true for all of us. Once I began to understand this I discovered a freedom previously unimaginable. I felt able to show up as myself, pursue what truly mattered to me and live life on my own terms.
Venturing further into this journey I began carrying out my own research, building a wide range of knowledge and practice in personal development, mindfulness, somatic healing, mindset, and radical acceptance.
This work sparked a deeper interest and the desire to support others who were struggling in the same way I had been. I began coaching informally in 2021 to gain experience and went on to undertake a professional qualification with BPP University in 2023. I now offer 1-2-1 support as well as workshops and longer courses for the public and organisations.
I have a background of more than twenty years working in Higher Education, leading a diverse range of people and gaining a deep appreciation of the challenges individuals face both at work and in their personal lives. This has been fundamental in informing my coaching practice and the support I'm able to offer to individuals across a range of roles and walks of life.
As a coach I take a compassionate, focussed, and gently challenging approach to assist coachees in gaining clarity, building curiosity, and finding calm and self-compassion. I operate in accordance with the Global Code of Ethics for Coaching and Mentoring (GCOE) and receive regular supervision via a coach mentor.
Taking inspiration from leading individuals in the fields of self-development, psychology, and spiritual growth (including Brené Brown, Tara Brach, Glennon Doyle, Gabor Maté, Deb Dana, and Michael Singer), my approach to coaching is designed to take a deep dive into the beliefs, behaviours, and conditioning that shape our desire for worthiness and prevent us from finding peace within ourselves.
I don't (and won't) pretend to be fully 'healed'; that's not my intention. Navigating the internal and external systems that make up the human experience is - for me - a daily practice and one I believe I'll be engaged in for the rest of my life. My hope is to support others in doing the same.
